Collaborating over Paper and Digital Documents

Rationale and Aims

When observing everyday settings it is amazing how the use of the paper persists even when technologies are introduced to replace it. Paper seems to support people in ways that sophisticated technologies cannot, being extremely mobile, flexible and robust. Recently a number of technologies have sought to replicate or exploit these 'affordances of paper'. At this second international COPADD workshop we wish to bring together researchers, academics and developers interested in new technologies that exploit the advantages of paper. This includes: those developing new technologies, like digital pens and paper, paper (-like) displays and other ways of augmenting paper; those who have developed applications based on technologies that are currently commercially available and those researching into the ways paper is currently used in different environments and that could inform these new developments.

Workshop Format

We invite researchers to this workshop from a wide range of disciplines including the social sciences, human-computer interaction, information sciences, ubiquitous computing and collaborative systems, as well as experts in paper, printing, digital pen and screen technologies. The workshop will consist of a mixture of long and short presentations and demonstrations of novel applications and new technologies. Presentations will be selected based on reviews of full (max 15 page) or short papers (4 pages) and all accepted papers will be published on the COPADD web site before the workshop.

Important Dates

31 Aug 2007 : Submission of Short and Full Papers
01 Oct 2007 : Notification of Acceptance
12 Oct 2007 : Pre-Registration Open

Organisers

This year the CoPADD workshop is jointly organised by CoPADD and the PGS (Printing and Graphics Science) group of the Institute of Physics.

CoPADD Mailing List

To promote the flow of information between people with interests in topics related to this workshop, we have established a CoPADD mailing list to allow people to send and receive emails about events, projects, products etc. The list will be moderated to ensure that you will only receive emails relevant to the community.
